Fashion and Interior Design… and a little more :)

Oh, Hello! – FALL STYLE August 24, 2013

INSPIRATION: The dress – the silhouette, colors, and style = awesome. And stripes are really in vogue right now! Win-win 🙂

THE LOOKS: Casual – Pair the dress with some cute flats, or some trendy studded boots and a comfy cardigan for the fall. Accessorize with bright jewelry and a  cute leather cross-body bag
Business – To give the outfit a more professional feel, pair instead with a tailored blazer in a neutral color like taupe, black, or navy, and some smart shoes in matching or bright colors, like the Michael Antonio patent leather pumps. Accessorize with a structured clutch or shoulder bag and a fun pair of “nerd glasses”.

THE ACCESSORIES: Color is the exclamation point in this outfit. For the accessories here, I picked up accent colors in the dress and made them mini focal points that provide multiple interest points. For example, the bright yellow color only shows up in a couple stripes in the dress, but gets special treatment in the accessories with beautiful yellow Kendra Scott earrings and Michael Antonio pumps. Fun cocktail rings or statement necklaces can be used to tie in all the colors (like the Kate Spade ring here), or just to add a little bling to your outfit. For the bags, you can either go matchy-matchy with a super cute clutch like the one by Modcloth or draw out another accent color (I picked red) with an interesting bag like the red one by Ora Kiely.

THE EXTRAS: I love incorporating home decor into fashion styling, not only because it just looks awesome, but the home fashion industry and trends are closely related to the clothing industry and vice versa, so it’s always nice to get them to co-exist 😛   I used a pair of candlestick pillars in Lemon at ZGallerie.coo, a paper lantern (LOVE THEM!!) in royal blue/purple for $2.49 each at Shindigz.com, and a really cute (and super cheap!) decorative tray in black from online Interior Decor store Occa-Home.

Thanks for reading guys! Give this post a like and be sure to spread the style with a friend or friends 🙂

The Rustic Room February 9, 2013

Hey guys!!! Soooo sorry for the lack of posts! Spring semester has totally thrown me for a loop…. it’s SO crazy already, and I’ve been super busy with that plus work and really haven’t had time to sit down and do a really good post 😦
Anyways, hopefully this will hold you guys over! I was feeling inspired tonight, and decided to switch it up a little and publish an interior design post just because 🙂

So the room… the colors and the faded out quality of the room give it a weathered, lived in look, and while the minimalist color scheme may seem a little scarce and maybe even cold, the room still has a soft feel to it. Personally, I love the washed out browns (mostly in the couch and photo on the far left) paired with the rich gold (in the pillows and the middle and top right artwork) and cool blue-green (in the walls, floor, and pictures). The antique feel is brought out by the rough wood flooring, weathered dress form, and even in the text on “The Hobbit” artwork. The same antique feel is found in the handwritten script artwork and pillows, but here, there is also a soft, romantic feel to it (also present in the Paris photo). I also threw in a slight urban feel with the minimalist couch and the pillows (city graphics, bold text, animal print, etc.)

Anyways, to try and wrap this up and describe it, I would say this room is a bit of urban, industrialist, country, and romantic – a big mix of layered textures and feels (which is my absolute favorite way to do a room!). I could see this room as a small apartment in the city with a good landscape window view and somewhat sparing furnishings 🙂

P.S. – this is a total movie-buff friendly room xD (movie poster, film frames and movie-worthy shots :P)

I’ve also included a fashion design set that I made to coordinate with the interior design one just for fun 🙂
The colors and feel is pretty similar, but in the fashion design set, I’ve picked up on the more urban angle with the dress outfit and brought out the yellow accent from the one pillow on the floor…

Anyways, that’s all I have, but hope you enjoyed, and hopefully I’ll get a break on homework and be able to do a real post soon… O.o

My first interior design set on Polyvore to get posted on my blog!!! Hooray!!

Anyway, as some of you may know, I also love interior design and working with color, texture, patterns (and to some degree, layout) to pull a space together. And I really love rustic spaces with a girly and unexpected side to them… hence the set 🙂

I love how the rustic floor, antique-y wall decor, and the country patterns in the couch blend so well with the more formal chandelier and the modern side table! It was really just an experiment with period mixing (and of course, color) that I loved so much I wanted to share!
