Top 5 Fashion Trends for the 2012 Holiday Season December 12, 2012

So, it’s the 12th already, which means it’s 13 days until Christmas! And if you’re anything like me, you’re researching fashion trends for the holiday instead of starting your Christmas shopping (who starts Christmas shopping until the week of or before Christmas, anyway?? JK :P)
Well, I figured that as long as I’m looking up holiday trends instead of shopping for gifts, I might as well share my finds with you! So here they are.

1. Sequins

One of my favorite decorative things ever, sequins are on the top list of holiday fashion trends. They’re so much fun in the right light (you can literally see the lights dance on a flat surface!), and are definitely a fun way to mirror this festive season. If you’re feeling bold and a little flirty this season, try a sequined body-con dress like the one shown by AKIRA, or, if you’re not ready to go all-over sequins, try a dress or accessory that only uses sequins as accents (like the dress by Charlotte Russe or the Dorothy Perkins scarf). For the ultimate look, pair the dress with a pair of stilettos or boots, and the scarf with a fitted blouse and skinnies.

2. LRD (Little Red Dress)

We’ve been through the LBD, and the LWD. Moving on to the LRD for a fresh take on a classic in a great holiday color! The best part about it is that red is a flattering color for every skin tone, according to the experts 🙂
Try out this holiday trend with the Vintage dress by Lindy Bop paired with classic pumps and jewelry to bring back the old-style feeling of Christmas, or with Modcloth’s cute A-line dress paired with red stilettos for a more formal, but girly look. And if you want to be extra-stylish, combine the sequin trend with the LRD trend for the ultimate party look with the funky Vera Wang dress pictured below 🙂

3. Nordic Print Sweaters

Everyone hates the old Christmas sweaters with the reindeer and Santa faces and Snowmen… they’re just so… old…. Unfortunately, they’re not going anywhere, but some more fashion conscious designers have reinvented the Christmas sweater to make it more attractive. So a few options for those of you who like being warm and comfortable, but cute at the same time, are these sweaters from sheinside.com – pair them with boots (either knee high or ankle booties) and a pair of dark skinny jeans, or semi-sheer leggings and voila – comfy chic ;P

4. Lace Dresses

So lace dresses have been really big for a while now, and they’re here for the holidays as well! Sweet, flirty, and feminine, lace is a great way to show your girly side, and keep the holiday spirit – and the best part is that you’re not limited by color 😛
Try out lace (if you haven’t already) with the Dorothy Perkins white lace dress and a pair of camel colored boots and matching jewelry for an angelic take on the lace trend. For something a little more girly and sweet, try Modcloth’s adorable skater dress in blue, paired with mustard yellow flats and a cute hair bow to nail the look. If you’re looking for something a little more simplistic though, try the lace dress by Forever 21 with sheer black tights and black pumps, and a classic red lip.

5. Leggings

What’s versatile, cute, and available in a million colors and prints? Shoes? True… but I’m thinking of leggings! In the trend world, we’ve gone from straight leg jeans, to skinny jeans, to super skinny jeans, to jeggings, to leggings and tights. And by the way, this is a whole other post, but my theory is that skinny pants are going to go out really soon, and we’ll be back to the bellbottom/wide leg pant style in a couple seasons. But anyway, if you’re dying to try out this trend while it lasts, check out these cute leggings by Romwe, Chicnova, and Unikoo, paired with neutral tops or tunics and a pair of boots or ankle booties for a trendy spin 🙂

Well, that’s the end of this post! Hope you guys try out some of these trends this Christmas (the one I’m most likely to rock this year is sequin, just because they’re so awesome!), and let me know how you styled them! Have an awesome holiday season! And get some shopping done!
